Description
Squidbeam Games, founded in 2014 by award-winning visual effects artist Laurent Kermel, is an independent multi-platform video game studio based in the San Francisco Bay Area. SquidBeam Games crafts new and innovative game mechanics and one-of-a-kind experiences, including Virtual Reality.
History
Laurent Kermel is a Visual Effects Society (VES) award-winning artist who has worked on numerous Hollywood blockbusters such as
Solo: A Star Wars Story
,
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
,
Harry Potter
,
Shrek 2
,
How to Train Your Dragon
,
Transformers: Age of Extinction
and
Avengers: Age of Ultron
. However, he always had a passion for playing and creating video games, ever since the day he first laid his hands on a PC in 1984. Kermel designed several
Atari ST
games in the 1990s, releasing some to the public in the early 2000s. As a lifelong student and lover of video game history, he is owner and webmaster of Video Game Den, an 8/16 bit review site online since 2003 that covers the golden age of Japanese video gaming.
In creating his own video game studio, Squidbeam Games, Kermel showcases his deep expertise in video games, his professional skill set and nearly 20 years experience as a visual effects artist, developer, illustrator and storyteller. For him, the unique immersion offered by video games is the perfect medium to combine these skills, delivering captivating and viscerally emotional experiences. Especially today, now that Virtual Reality is finally here!
