Laurent Kermel
I am a VES award winning visual effects artist who has worked on numerous Hollywood
blockbusters such as Harry Potter, Shrek 2, How to Train Your Dragon,
Transformers 4, Avengers 2 and Star Wars Rogue One. Please feel free to visit my
professional website for more information.
My true passion has always been playing and making
video games since the day I first laid my hands on a PC in 1984. I have been
developing video games as a hobby for as long as I can remember. I actually created numerous
video games for the Atari ST in the 1990s and released some of them to the public
in the early 2000s (see my Atari ST years
for more information).
I have also been studying video game history for a long time and I am the owner and web master of
Video Game Den, a 8/16 bit review website that has been
online since 2003 and which covers the golden age of Japanese video gaming (and more).
Although the United States invented video games, I wholeheartedly believe that Japan invented
video game culture.
With Squidbeam Games, I have combined my passion for video games with my professional skill set and
16+ years experience as a
visual effects artist, developer, illustrator and storyteller to create
my own video game studio.
For me, the unique immersion offered by video games
is the perfect medium to combine these skills and deliver captivating and emotional
experiences. Especially today, now that Virtual Reality is finally here!
Granted, being a solo-indie developer has more than its share of challenges, but it also
has more than its share of fun and exciting moments!
Oh, and did I mention that there's nothing I enjoy more than drawing squids? Please visit my
art website
if you would like to see
some of my illustration work.
